A ram-type mill (like X5750A) has a spindle head mounted on a horizontal ram that can slide in and out, so you can reach over large workpieces. A knee-type mill (like XL6436) has a vertically adjustable knee supporting the table, giving you better precise depth control on smaller parts. Both are conventional universal mills you can rely on.
